Nasi lemak is a rice dish cooked in coconut milk, pandan leaves and with a dash of salt and ginger.
Traditionally, nasi lemak is served with hot spicy sauce (sambal) and usually include various garnished including fresh cucumber slices, fried anchovies (ikan bilis), roasted peanuts, and hard-boiled or fried egg.
Back in the days, in an agrarian society, the villagers would consume a healthy serving of nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaf for breakfast before heading out to the fields.
In Malaysia, this dish is considered a national dish despite having its roots in the Malays culture ans its cuisines.
